new to stereo install, need help!
Hi everyone, any help is greatly appreciated.
I have the factory headunit. I have a rockford fosgate 4 channel amplifier (r300-4) and 4 seats of polk audio speakers with the crossover and tweeter.
I know how to hook up the amp, i already have it mounted under the drivers seat. (is it ok to use the seat bolt as a ground??)
It looks like I use the speaker wire from the amp to the crossover, then hook up the speakers to the woofer output on the crossover and the tweeters to the output on the crossover for them. I guess i'm just lost on whether or not I need to have the speakers hooked up to the factory wiring???
How do I get the audio signal to the amp?
Basically, I have no clue how to hook up these components.
Thanks for your help in advance.

4 channel amps are a little more complicated to install than your run of the mill sub amp.
Here's the parts that you'll need:
-2 Line Output Converters ($25-$50 each)
-"Speed" Cable (Avalable at Best Buy and other audio shops, has all speaker wires plus REM wire in one cable. Saves time, energy, and the headache of running individual wires - $25)
-2 6ft RCA cables (price varies greatly on quality)
So here's a rough outline of what you'll need to do to quickly and easily install your 4ch amp. This is all assuming by your name that you have a 2007 Ram.
1.) Locate the factory amplifier. These are generally located under the passenger side dash and are a bit of a pain to work with. There will be something like 20 screws that need to come out to drop the lower portion of the center and passenger dash, and the amp is directly behind the covers.
2.) Remove the audio plug from the amp (bottom grey plug if I remember correctly), and identify your audio wires from the radio. Connect your Line-Output Converters (from here out refered to as LOC's) to these wires (one will see the left and right channels for the front, the second for the left and right of the rear channels)
3.) Connect your RCA wires to the LOC's, and run wires to amplifier.
4.) Connect one end of the speed wire to the output side of the amplifier and run the other end up to factory amplifier location. Connect the speed wire's connections to the appropriate amp output wires.
**YOU HAVE NOW CONNECTED YOUR 4 CHANNEL AMP TO YOUR FACTORY HEAD UNIT AND SPEAKERS**
Now for your speakers:
1.) Remove the front door pannels and mount the corssover to the door sheet metal.
2.) Connect the factory speaker wires in the door (what was connected to your amp earlier) to the input terminals on the crossover.
3.) Mount your woofer and connect to the appropriate terminals on the crossover
4.) Mount your tweeter in the factory provision if there is one. If there is no factory tweeter location, you'll need to drill a hole in your door pannel and create a mounting location for the tweeter. Connect to appropriate terminals on the crossover.
5.) Repeat process for rear doors/panels

Sorry, I've been out of town.
Few quick questions:
What is a "speed wire"?
"Connect the factory speaker wires in the door (what was connected to your amp earlier) to the input terminals on the crossover."
How does this get the power from the aftermarket amp to the speakers? I understand the LOC converters the signal to the amp, but shouldn't the input on the crossover come from the aftermarket amp?
I was thinking that I will hook up the LOC, run the rca wire to the amp. Then have all of the crossovers located under the seat with the amp. Then I would take the "woofer" output on the amp and just connect it to the existing (factory)wires for the door speakers (which I would have spliced when I installed the LOC). This way I don't have to worry about running wires into the doors.
Also, do you know where I could find the color code for each speaker wire? ie Front right is grey/?
Thanks
