uconnect install
I have a 2008 Jeep Liberty Limited with the standard stereo, infinity audio. The stereo has the two uconnect buttons on it, but don't work of course, since the option is not installed. In trying to figure out what I need, it appears that I should get pat #82211878 ( uconnect kit ) to do a self install. Here's my question: This kit includes the external speaker and a small control pad, but I thought the idea was to hear your phone converstaion through the car speakers, no? I also want to use the two buttons on the stereo face, not having to mount an external button pad. Is this included button pad the only way to work the blue tooth phone? Don't the factory buttons work. Lastly, the dealers want $550 to install uconnect, claiming the parts are $399 plus $150 labor. Is the dealer using a different part? I can get the #82211878 for $220 - $250 most anywhere. So, I'm concerned that this easily available part is more like an aftermarket unit, and doesn't quite work the same as a factory install. I hope someone can shed some light on the differences.
Maybe they have a kit that works through the radio like you want. If not, you can get a Parrot installed. They work like you want them too. I have put in a dozen of these. Mainly the Ck3100 and ck3200. They work great. Plus you get a display and it stores your phone book. There are harnesses that allow you to install it really easy from Metra.

HOLY CRAP man, your dealer is ripping you off. If you have the UConnect buttons on your radio, you just don't have the module for the phone. It cost around $200 installed from dealers here in Florida and takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes to install.
The only parts that come with it are the module with the microphone. It plugs directly into the back of your radio. The hardest part about the install is running the mic to where it is going to be installed which means running a wire across the bottom, up the A pillar, through the headliner area near the visor. The stereo speakers in the car are what is used for the audio.
I would call another dealer and let them know that you have a UConnect capable radio but need to have the module and mic installed and go from there. Sorry, I don't know the part numbers for you.
