replacing audio system, and have a couple questions
hey everyone, I am going to replace my old Alpine 240 amp, one of the front channels keeps crapping out. It was 40x4. I have a Kenwood 512 DVD in dash, so that is staying but I want to replace the amp with the Infinity Kappa 5 channel. For the fronts I want to put in the Infinity Perfect 6.1 components. I know that all of our rams come with 6x9's in the front, but has anyone changed them out to 6.5"s and did you have to use a spacer or just the adapter plate from 6x9 to 6.5". Then I was going to run some Kappa 5.25" in the rear doors and still trying to figure out sub.
Anyone have any good ideas. I am thinking of just 1 10" sub, the brain thumping days are over
Thoughts, ideas, and if anyone can make a single fiberglass enclosure for under the back seat let me know.........
I'm gonna tell ya that door space is VERY limited in the front doors. You'll see once ya get in there and look around. I've read lotsa bad things about the infinity sounds system. Just yank it out and go with normal stuff.
These seem to be the speaker of choice here, thats why I went with them. Haven't installed them yet so I have no idea about needing spacers or just using the adaptors. I have the adaptors and a spare sheet of 5/8 mdf just incase. Let ya know tomorrow hopefully.
This is the sub I was gonna go with. From what I understand it is shallow so it works well with limited space.

I put 6.5s in both my front and rear doors. My rears were 5.25s originally. But for my fronts I simply took and old clipboard and used that to make my plate for my front doors and cut a hole in it for the 6.5s
I would stick with Kappas over the Type R. You can fit 6.5's in the front doors with the adapters fairly easy or just get the Kappa 6x9's. There are boxes that fit under the back seat. Get a shallow mount Kenwood, Pioneer, or something that will match the Kappa amp RMS output as close as possible.
Do yourself a favor and don't get the adaptors for 6.5 simply do what weed did or i used 1/2" plywood and made mine today. Install was a breeze once I trashed those flimsy plastis adaptors. Alpines sound nice, heard good things about the Kappas too.

I'm going to wait on the speaker upgrade for now, but I did put in my order for a Kappa 5 today! I think it will make my type S's sound that much better, and then I will decide which route to go. I am going to get a sub now too, still weighing the options
