Default Speaker Sizes?

Alright, Summer is here, time to get started on the stereo.

I have looked through many posts, but have lost my bookmarks on speaker sizes.

I have a 2009 Dodge Ram Crew Cab, RES standard stereo. What speakers will fit?
dash - ? will 4" fit in there? 3.5's only?
Front/back doors, 6x9's only, or 5 1/4, how about a 6 3/4?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I want to do as little modification to the speaker areas as possible.

I would like to put in
Alpine 4" in dash, and Alpine 6 3/4 in doors.

Thanks,
Wade

If you have the standard 4 speakers stereo, i would keep it that way. Adding dash speakers is not something you can properly do without specific modules or eliminating your rear door speakers. Also, i would highly reccomend using an amp to power the speakers and/or atleast use a sound processor like the JL cleansweep, or the RF 360.1 or RF DEQ I think it is?? Those 3 all clean up the oem HU signal and reproduce a much cleaner, clearer, bassier ouput.
Installing aftermarket speaks without additional power won't gain you much at all. You need more power for them to sound good. Also, don't think more speakers are better because I ran 1 pair of 6.5" MB Quart QSD components in my front doors and it blew away many 4 speaker systems as far as loudness goes. Why? db's is why. Look at the specs of the speakers DB rating. The higher the number the louder it will be.
Infinity's are generally hgih like 91db, meanwhile Alpine is relatively low around 86db's. Puttin 1w to each pair of speakers, the Infinity's will be 5db's louder than the Alpine's given the same exact power no matter how many watts.
Now, take the 86db pair of Alpine's and double them up so you now have 4 Alpine speakers. With all 4 speakers playing and each speaker given the same exact wattage as the Infinity pair, the single pair of Infinity's will still be louder than the 4 Alipne's combined. Adding a 2nd pair of Speakers only adds 3db to the overall sound, so 4 Alpine speaks rated at 86db's will only play 89db's at 1w where as the Infinity's are at 91db.
My suggestion to you is if you are sticking with the factory radio, get a pair of Infinity's or some 6.5" speaks that have a relatively high db rating this way you will get more sound from them and it may be enough to go without an amp and just pick up a sound processor. Without a processor your bass will likely suffer. Without an amp, your overall sound quality will suffer because you will be feeding the speakers mostly distortion from the OEM HU due to the volume **** needing to be cranked up to get the volume loud enough to where it's comfortable.

The doors both front/back are 6.5/6.75" speakers. Just becareful of the depth in the back doors, but most woofers should fit.
I'll stop there incase I lost you...lol

Thanks dirtydog, i have a 6 speaker factory system. i will add an amp, am trying to decide on what pre-amp converter because I need to keep the hu for now. I will be adding a sub, I have an amp for that, but will upgrade. I want to do a full set up, but will have to go step my step.

I agree, more speakers are not better. I will take the db in to account when comparing speakers. Infinity is good, I think I am just Alpine (highs) MTX (bass) loyal because I have always been happy with them. I am trying to get exact specs on the door enclosures, so I can buy the right stuff.

Thanks,
Wade
