Default 5.25 or 6.5 inch speakers in rear?

I have searched and found people saying that 5.25 and 6.5 inch speakers fit the rear doors in the quad cab for 3rd gen Rams. Does this mean both sizes can fit or that you have one or the other? If given the choice I would go with 6.5 inch but do not feel like modifying the opening. Also I have heard that to use aftermarket speakers you must modify/bypass? the Infinity amp which is time consuming, is this true? Any advice is apreciated, thanks.

depends which year you have. 06+ are 6.5" the prior years are 5.25". Regardless of what size you get, they won't screw in directly, atleast 3 brands I came across wouldn't. That goes for the front door as well. The openings are just an odd size and I don't know why they do that?
I had Polk DB series for a while. For the price, they have an unbeatable sound! Good highs and lots of bass.

I like to use Crutchfield as an informational source and then take that information and buy elswhere's...lol they are just too darn pricey! Although they do provide all the needed adapter harnesses and adapter mounting plates/hardware needed as well. i guess if you ar not inclined or have lots of parts, their price isn't all that bad.

My truck is a 2004 Quad cab so from what you are saying it has the 5.25'' in the rear. I do the same thing with Crutchfield, they are way to expensive but is a good place to research what you want. So you said they did not screw in directly, what did you do to make it fit. I'm capable of modifying but like to know what has worked for others before cutting metal. I love Polks also but will probaly not put them in this truck due to the fact it is my 3rd vehicle and only drive it a few times a month. Thanks.

I have an 04 QC and my rear doors were 5.25. I put 6.5s in the rear doors but it took some work. I laid them face down on a sheet of MDF I had and traced around them. I cut those out and traced another ring 1/2" from the outside and cut that out to make a 1/2" wide trim ring. I painted it black and screwed it to the door and run a beam of silicon around it. Then I screwed my 6.5 to that
