Default Upgrading to Newer Factory Stereo

Hi everyone

I have a question that may have been asked before (I searched with no luck) Background:

I have a '00 Dakota 3.9 2WD Club Cab I bought used with no stereo. The previous owner took old the factory deck and cut the harness to install an aftermarket and that was removed before sale. I have currently installed a aftermarket Dual brand CD Deck in place and it works pretty good aside from some ****les that are starting to wear on me.

I know I have the option of installing a period factory stereo to the truck if I can get the harness plug with it, but I'm either a sucker for torture or a bit too much a geek and have taken up with the idea of installing a newer Chrysler factory deck in it place that has a few more bells and whistles.

As much as I would love a RHB Deck, realistically it not feasible as there is WAY to many features to hook up and frankly the 2,000 $ MSRP is scary. I've settled on a REQ deck with the Sirius option. My question that if this is a CANBUS Radio (not sure ) can that be simulated or not used and just wire in the features I want. I know it's a major uphill battle but I like working on problems like this. Anyone have any input to share?

Why not just get the dash modded to fit a double DIN and slap that in there and be done with it for a whole lot less headache and money than the route you are trying to take
