Default 06 Ram 1500 - Double Din Install

Hello, I am installing a double-din head unit in my 06 Ram 1500.

The factory system is the 4 speaker only and I know I will also need to order the bezel for Nav.

My question is which wire hareness to get, becuase I have read conflicting suggestions.

Would it be the Metra C2R-CHY4 or 70-6502?

I am doing the same thing to my 06 ram. I just ordered the nav bezel. I found where someone used a metra part# xsvi-6502nav which i believe is the same as the C2R-CHY4 harness. The C2R-CHY4 harness will help keep the "retained acc. power" feature if equipped. Which means the radio wont shut off after the key has been pulled out until you open a door. It will also provide 12v positive accessory output that don't have it in the factory harness. It will keep you from having to find a accessory wire and splicing into it. I already have an accessory wire (remote wire) ran for an amp so i would just use the cheaper harness and tie off the accessory wire i already have. I dont have the retained acc. power so it really wouldn't benefit me any.

Thanks! I don’t have the retained acc power either so I did not order the C2R-CHY4, just the standard harness.

I was hoping the factory harness has a BOTH 12V constant and “ignition” power.

I have everything except for the wire harness and install kit now.

I hope it will be fairly straight-forward.

For the HU I went with the Pioneer AVH-P2400BT. Purchased a “barely used” MTX thunderform and installed 2 Kicker 10s (after a small modification to the box), driving them with a MBQuart FX1.400. Replaced the door speakers a couple of years ago with some basic Kenwoods 5-1/4 2-ways (may replace them for 6-1/2 later depending on how it sounds when I am done with this phase).

Received the Nav Bezel on Friday - now just waiting on the metra install kit.

I know this is a week old or so but wanted to chime in. I doubt your truck has a switched acc wire at the harness, you can jst run a new one tho.

Thanks for the input. If it does not have the switched acc wire in the factory harness -- where would I tap into?

(I have everything and am going to start this project tomorrow).
