Default Factory Stereo Replacement

I've got a factory stereo system in my 2000 Chrysler Neon. My problem is that I'd like to replace my stereo system with an in-dash CD/MP3 player. I also have a 5 disc tray (also stock) below the factory stereo. What I'd like to know is if I need to replace the 5 disc changer in order to be able to play mp3 discs properly or if I'd be fine to just replace the factory stereo? Are there any brands that would provide a good solution to my needs? I've got factory speakers, and I'm looking to replace them in peices. Suggestions anyone?

Once the radio is replaced, you will lose the changer because it only interfaces with the factory deck. There a number of decent radios that will do MP3 encoded cds: Alpine, Pioneer, Clarion Pro audio, etc. Choose the one that you like and go from there...

He's absolutely right. You would lose the in-dash changer due to the way its designed.

As for using CD-Changers, I personally do not like them. They are big, bulky, and if it isnt in-dash, you most likely will have to twist and turn or climb under something to get to it.

You are honestly better off looking at a portable mp3 player like the iPod or a PC version mp3 player. These are easily portable, require less involved work, and you can erase and add new mp3s as you want. CD's scratch and are easily damaged/stolen. An mp3 player would most likely fit in your pocket.

It's all personal preference, but you could easily get a 5gb-30gb mp3 player for around $150-300. Even a 5gb size drive equals out to about 8 mp3 cds worth of music....

Good luck!
