Default '95 Intrepid Radio quit

Hi all. My wife and I have a '95 Intrepid that we really like (have owned it since '97), but at a mere 188000 miles, the radio has quit. Turn on the radio, nothing. No clock (it should be on all the time anyway), no radio station display, and no sound. Put in a tape and you can hear it engage, but again, no sound. This happened before, but after a couple of weeks, it started working again. Short somewhere? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I'm moving this to the audio/visual electronics section. I think you get better answers there.

If the fuse was blown I dont think you would hear any sounds with a tape in, but check that anyway. If that isnt it you will need to take the radio out of the dash. Once out I would make sure the connection into the back of the radio is good and secure. If that doesnt work, your best bet is to get a multi-meter or test light and see if the radio is getting power when it should be. Check back and let us know.

Thanks. Now, how do I go about removing the radio without making a mess of things?

The plastic surrounding the radio should jst pop off with a little force. After that the radio is held in place by 2 10mm bolts. The wiring harness connects in the back of the radio.

Just an update. Still don't know why the radio died, but I bought a good one off eBay and swapped it out in about 15 minutes. All works fine now. Anyone want a used Intrepid stereo w/tape deck for parts? Cheap!
