infinity sound help that worked
I have been totally frustrated with my 05 infinity 6disc laramie system in my 3500 ram. having had 3 other rams with infinity systems since 98, I was truly dissappointed with the poor sound quality, but have found a solution that enabled me to keep the stock unit and speakers. Thought I'd share with anyone interested. It starts by getting some products from JL Audio called a clean sweep CL441, and CLSSI, and a decent 4 channel amp of your choice. I used a small Alpine unit. Installation requires getting to the front and rear door speakers wires, and supplying a power lead. What the clean sweep does is take the poorly equalized factory signals, recalibrates them and sets them to a flat setting. The SSI, basically a 3 band equalizer for low, mids and highs, allows you to dial in the amount of gain for each of these levels. I chose to use the 2 channel input and leave the dash tweeters powered by the factory amp. By controlling the levels of the door speakers, you can make the dash speakers much more present for good high end. Now the front door are true subs as I was able to dial down the low pass filter in the amp to really clean them up, and my rear door are now more of a mid/full range. I have to say, I was really skeptical, but am really pleased with the result. I'm still fine tuning it, but the difference is night and day. Everyone was trying to sell me a new head unit and all the other stuff, but being 49 years old, with eyesight not what it once was, I really wanted to keep the stock and simple head unit, with the steering wheel controls and Sirius Radio. The system now will go right up to max levels and not sound like its going to resonate itself to death. I'm finally able to totally enjoy driving this Ram with the stereo on. Hope this helps. rick
