will or will not fit
i own a 2000 dodge dakota slt club cab with an infinity system i believe (has tweeters that say infinity). anyway all of my speakers are blown and i want to replace them. according to somesites and other things the speakers are 6 3/4". so i went to my 2 audio sites i have, crutchfield and sounddomain, and was looking for some that would fit without an adapter. i entered my truck on both sites and started looking and found the infinity kappa 652.7i. now here is the confusing part, on the crutchfield site it says they will not fit, but on the sound domain site it says they will fit. any input or other sights that will maybe let me know if it will fit or not would be appreciated.
The 6 1/2's will work you jst might have to use an adaptor...it jst makes the opening for the speaker a tad bit smaller. What you really wanna watch is the mounting depth of the speaker.
Exactly, that's probably why they say they won't fit. The magnet might interfere with the window. But they should fit... there is quite a bit of roomin there. Open the door, take out the factory speaker and roll the window down, check to see if it coes into view in the hole, if it does, measure to it and then add 1/4" (that's how thick the adapter is. Then check the mounting depth on the Kappas.
thats the thing i do not want the 6 1/2" speakers with an adapter. i want to get the proper size so i can go without an adapter because i have had problems with adapters in the past, and i want to get as much speaker as i can. the kappa's are 6 3/4 (which is the correct size for the door). crutchfield says they WONT fit, but sound domain says they WILL fit. i will do the door measuring to see if i can tell whether it will fit or not. i was just wondering if there was a certain reason why they wouldnt fit.
The adapter isn't to make them fit, it's to make them bolt up. The factory speakers only use 3 holes, aftermarket 6.5's and 6.75's use 4 holes. You could just screw right into the door with new holes if you wanted. Thats what I did.
To tell ya the truth..if you made you own adaptor with something sturdy, like a 1/2 inch peice of wood, it would be better than bolting it to the factory surface.
Use the 6.75" speakers, they will fit with ease. You will need to drill new mounting holes but it is a relatively simple job to do.

i got the speakers and installed them awhile back and havent had time to post but the 6 3/4 speakers werent big enough but they did align perfectly in the stock adapter in the front so i used silicone and glued them in there and cut the stock speakers up to make brackets to help hold the speakers. the back ones were a little more complicated but i ended up cutting the ring around the stock speakers as a bracket and then used silicone to glue them in and then some rivets to help support the weight of the speaker. so thanks for all the help!
