replacing the factor speakers with jl audio components
i'm thinking of putting a set of the vr-650csi for both the front and back. as i understand it, the stock speakers are 6x9 front and 5¼" in the rear. since the speakers i want to use are 6½", will i have a difficult time installing them? what will i have to do/need?
Judging by your stock system speaker sizes, you have a Ram? Well, to answer your question, yes you can put 6 1/2s in the front door. You can either buy the appropriate baffle or build your own from MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard). With the tweeter, you can either put them in factory locations (if applicable) or put them in the baffle by the mid-bass driver. We do it all the time at my shop (Tweeter). Let me know if you have any other questions... Oh, and you will want an amp to push them if you don't already!!!
yes, i have a ram 1500 quad cab. i went to a local tweeter and they wanted $200 to do the install, that's asking too much. which method would sound better, buying the baffle or building my own out of mdf? where can i get the appropriate baffle? do you have any instructions on building one? what about the rear doors, will six and halves fit? i plan on getting a ppi dcx 300.4 (50Wx4) amp to run them.
Local stereo shop should be able to get one for you and putting it in yourself is easy. I am using 5 1/4 component set. But why use a 50x4 watt amp. I have 100x2 just for the back two and 150x2 for the front components. Is there a differance using the same wattage amp as using your stereo??????
