Default Intall problem

I am replacing my stock REF radio with a factory RAK unit. The new unit will not work. The clock works and the unit will load and eject CD's. My problem is the unit will not turn on when the on button is pushed. When I reinstalled my old radio it did keep the presets even though it was without power while unistalled. This makes me think my problem might be a computer recognition problem. Am I on the right track? If so how do I fix? If anyone has any other inputs please advise.
Thanks

If the old radio works fine, it sounds like a problem with the new unit itsself.

It came out of a 2006 Magnum and is going onto a 2007 Compass, the RAK radio is an option for the compass

Could it be that the Magnum is Can-Bus, but I don't believe the Jeep is. Therefore, not way to give the radio accessory power?

It's a data system in some newer Chryslers that loops through the vehicle to the computer and tells it various things. In the Magnum's case, there is no accessory wire behind the radio to turn the radio on when you turn the key, the vehicles computer tells it to turn on via data sent through the Can-Bus system. In vehicles with Navigation, the Can-Bus system also supplies the Speed pulse, and reverse trigger through the Can-Bus. To my knowledge, Jeeps have not aquired the system yet. So that radio you have has nothing to tell it to turn on. You have an accessory wire in the jeep, but since the Magnum used Can-Bus to turn the radio on, that wire does nothing when it reaches the radio. Basically, that radio will NOT turn on unless it is in a vehicle with a Can-Bus system.

Newer GM's have the same system essentially. With those, unless you use a special adapter, you can't even check diagnostics codes if the radio isn't plugged in. Everything loops through the radio. It's crazy.
