That said, the Viper still needs a V10 to do what the lil ol Corvette does with a V8......

Let's not turn this thread into a Corvette vs. Viper thing.....both are great cars and both are the best American sportscars built today.....nuff said...

 

Those little "it needs this to do this" arguments can go back and forth. Like, "The Blue Devil needs a supercharger to keep up with the Viper"... It's all about what you like. A horsepower war will go back and forth until these cars are $500,000 and the Corvette can't put out anymore horsepower, lol!

 

oh no doubt i would rather have a viper over a vette any day. and im guessing the 09 concept is similiar to if not the same as the viper competition coupe concept? but the way i heard it was that either the 08 or 09 vettes (cant remember which) was gonna have 650 horses, and thats not the bluedevil, thats 650 NA horsepower. i do hope that im wrong and its only the special edition bluedevil thats gonna have that much power.

yes, but thats apples to oranges, youre comparing stock production cars to highly modified cars. that argument will never work because someone can always pull the old "well my friend's friend knows a guy who went to school with a guy whos second cousin dated a girl whos father had a 3 million hp corvette". almost anything is possible in the aftermarket today. there are corvettes out there pushing well over 1000 horses and are very streetable and will hang dead on or better with a hennessey.

that argument doesnt work either because i can turn that around and say, "well the corvette still needs a v8 to do what the porsche987 does with a 3.4 liter flat 6."

really with todays technology and engineering you can get enough horsepower out of a v6 that it would make a v8 pretty much obsolete if companies spent the time and money developing it. the new nitro puts out 270 horses from a 4.0 liter v6. for years and years, most fullsize pickups with big "powerful" v8s didnt even put out that much. now dont get me wrong i love a v8 and i hope that they stick around for many more years, as im positive they will, im just making a point.

The Viper is so hard core now, but for a few grand extra I'd rather get the CLK Black Series.

 

Hope I can post this. Most don't know that the08 is a new Gen for the Viper. It is not just about adding some Hp. It is a complete redo of the entire drivetrain. I have heard this car up close. WOW. My 05 even with mods sounded ok at best. Think Gallardo sound!!!
