Dodge's latest crossover (codenamed JC49) has been spotted again, out testing ahead of its sales launch early next year. Likely to be built at Chrysler's Toluca plant, the new crossover is tipped to share its platform with the Sebring family and could even spawn a new version of the PT Cruiser.

Production will kick into gear by the end of this year with roughly 150,000 cars expected to roll off the line annually. Though it's hard to gauge what the new model will look like, previous reports have suggested it'll be styled similarly to the Nitro SUV.

There's a great deal riding on the new JC49. The new crossover is a crucial element of Dodge's first serious attempt at tackling the European market, which means that an economical four-cylinder option is a given and possibly a new diesel unit as well. US markets will wind up with Chrysler Group's 3.5L V6 engine but is North America ready for another Dodge crossover.
