Did they use a hoist, or did they use a winch mounted on the Jeep itself? Now that would have been something to see, if they used a 12,000lb winch like the Power Wagon comes with. Of course, in that case, I doubt the winch would be able to coil that much cable. Oh well, a shorter building, and then the advertisement could have shown the Jeep pulling itself up with it's own winch.

Love the shots. Never saw them on TV tho!!!!
How about this for a tv ad idea...
Jeep drives up the side of the building and drives by and says hi to Spiderman or some other superhero...
Or a guy drives his date up the skyscraper to enjoy the view of the city lights at night...
Or a take off on Fear Factor dropping their cars down the side of buildings, Jeep's coming up ... as car falls with screaming FF participant, Jeep driver says, "Shoulda gotta a Jeep... "
Hope to see your Jeep up the wall concept done into a tv commercial...

Yeah, I have to agree this is totally lame. You could have hoisted ANY car up the side of a building.
Dumb.
I must say though that at first I thought the Cherokee was way too boring looking, but now it's growing on me. I've decided it harkens back to the '63 Wagoneer styling with the nearly flat (not curved) side windows. The wheelwells and side styling are timeless jeep stuff, plus it really is ultra capable its got the sway bar disconnet solenoids and front and rear locking differentials optional - those are truly great features and this building promotion is NOT showcasing them, nor the story jeep could be telling.
They could have sent a Cherokee over Niagra falls too - it's just a stunt.
There are outlandish and memorable ways to illustrate a vehicles capability. I remember as a wee lad, certain pickup commercials that really got the point across.
In '79 I remember CHevy had a great ad to sell the 250 six in their pickup. They used a version with full time four wheel drive. They put it in 4 lo and towed a giant (20ton?) Terex Titan earth mover used for strip mining. Yes it was a stunt, but at least the vehicle was actually doing something.
It reminded me of another Chevy ad recently where a guy in a Tracker pulls over to 'tow' a semi broken down.
This is similar to the recent new Dakota ad where the guy tows the diner/trailer off to California.
An extremely memorable ad - I remember it as being very tit for tat between Ford and Chevy around 80-'82 - had a 1 ton Ford 4x4 climbing a giant mound of concrete blocks. Then they somehow mounted a Chevy 1/2 ton in the bed of the Ford and climbed the mound again.
Dumb.
