Will the new Dakota have HEMI Power?
I have been asked this question so many times, that I thought I would just post what I know...

Alright, first off, you will see a 5.7L HEMI "MAGNUM" V-8 engine in the new generation Dakota. But it won't be right off the bat. I have two inside sources, and one says the 5.7L HEMI "MAGNUM" V-8 will first appear in the Dakota, behind the Club Cab configuration of the SRT-8 badge for a 2006 or 2007 model year. Not sure if the Dakota SRT-8 package will come on Quad Cab or not, but I personally would doubt it. The Dakota SRT-8 would recieve performance upgrades, tuned suspension, and aggressive body styling. Now my other source says that a Dakota SRT-8 model is a GO! However, he told me that it isn't impossible that the 6.1L HEMI V-8 from the 300C SRT-8 and new 2006 Grand Cherokee SRT-8 will have. He did mention that they will start development of the Dakota SRT-8 shortly after the final testing of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8 is done. A 6.1L HEMI V-8 powered Dakota SRT-8 would be showing up around 2007 model year, if this is correct.

As for the 5.7L HEMI "MAGNUM" V-8 having MDS, the awnser is yes. I first told of this news on this site almost a year ago. One of my inside sources told me that all 5.7L HEMI "MAGNUM" V-8s for all Dodge trucks... Ram 1500, Ram Heavy Duty, Ram Power Wagon, and Durango will get MDS for the 2006 model year. This has been backed by statements from Chrysler Group brass, saying it will happen for sure in 2006. Still not sure if the truck version of the 6.1L HEMI "MAGNUM" V-8 will receieve it or not.
Now as for the Dakota lineup getting a HEMI option, I would say yes. But expect a SRT-8 model first. I won't doubt Dodge will put the HEMI in the Dakota SLT and Laramie packages as an option to boost sales in two years. Remember that the 5.9L "MAGNUM" V-8 was only available on the Dakota 5.9L R/T models until the 2000 model year, when the Quad Cab model first debuted, then it was available as an option. So don't doubt that it will appear a few years down the road.
