Spy Shot: 2006 Dodge Charger:
The '99 concept car discussion has been beaten to death in various Mopar forums. A lot of people liked it, and wanted it or parts of it to arise as the new production Charger. However, remember that car was built on the old LH platform, which has now gone away. They could've maybe used the body. They definitely dragged that thing around all over the place hyping it up, I'll say that.
Personally, I like the back third of that car. Something about the middle and front section doesn't look right. It looks like it's bent or broken or something when viewed from certain angles. And the nose looks like an 80s/90s camaro to me. The '99 looked, to me, more like a "sports car" than a muscle car... an aerodynamic, sleek, wedge-shaped sports car.

Or option #3..... buy from a competitor!

Yes! That's the objective here, and I think the new car will achieve that very well.

Smoked? Not likely.

I don't like the new Charger- I have already made plenty of posts stating that. I have also gone on record that if I were in the market for a new car right now, which I'm not, I would select the Mustang. If you read any of my previous posts on the subject, you would also know that my problems with this new Charger extend way beyond the quantity of doors. I also wouldn't expect the performance specs to be much different than the 300C, which this car really is with a Dodge nameplate attached, or the Magnum. Same general size and weight with the identical drivetrain.... what's to be debated there?? I still have an issue with the name of this car as the Charger... it's not worthy of it. I wouldn't much care if DCX were to produce it with some new original name, or something like Intrepid or Polara from the past. I still wouldn't BUY one, but I wouldn't be pi$$ed off by it either. I resent some marketing bean counter trying to resurrect a historically significant name in nothing more than a feeble attempt to generate sales. Being a life-long Mopar fanatic, though, I'm still holding out hope for a decent DCX car that I would consider owning. This just ain't it..... as Pontiac has found out the hard way, when you take an outstanding drivetrain and wrap it in a turd, all you get is a fast turd.

Personally, doesnt this fit Dodge more than anything? I mean its Dodge Differnt right? While I would rather see this be a two door model, I think that making it a four door really shows that Dodge has the B*lls to try something differnt yet again, I mean who doesnt have a revived name car thats a two door, why not set themselves apart of everyother car out there yet again?
I apologize, TeeWJay. It must have been BadStratRT that I had recently gotten into a feud with regarding number of doors, not you.
You and I agree that this car should not be called Charger. I think it should've just been called Intrepid. Yes, they're trying to cash in on the Charger name. And that does disappoint me. I will always have a sour taste in my mouth knowing that the name was just slapped on as an afterthought.
But regardless of what the car is called, I personally think it's looking better and better. When the C&D images first came out, I agreed with everyone saying it looked like a pig and whatnot. Then the official Chrysler sketch came out, in that ugly reddish orange color. But after seeing the spy shots on the car hauler, and especially now after finally seeing a picture of the thing actually on the road, I'm changing my mind about how the car looks. I'm trying to keep a positive attitude about this. Dodge has introduced the Magnum into the affordable hotrod market, and along comes this new car. Yes, it has 4 doors. But as gas prices continue to rise, I'd be surprised to see the 2-door hotrod market grow anytime soon. This car at least gives another option (in addition to the Magnum) for a V8 hotrod car that is also practical. You must admit, Mopar has a lot better selection in their stable than they did 5-10 years ago! (300C, Magnum, now the Charger).
The bottom line is, I don't think it's as bad looking of a car as I did when the first sketches surfaced. Apparently, at least a few other people share the same view. Hopefully, the car will be well received when we can finally see it unveiled.
