With all the talk of hybrids and auto-makers ongoing commitments to creating eco-friendly vehicles, Dodge is proud to introduce to you their [/i]first volume production hybrid; the 2009 Dodge Durango 5.7LHEMI Hybrid.

The Dodge Durango HEMI Hybrid, available this fall, utilizes the most technologically advanced two-mode hybrid powertrain – jointly developed by Chrysler, Daimler, GM and BMW. This marks the first of Dodge’s efforts at providing fuel efficient vehicle technology. So what does this mean for you?

The Durango HEMI Hybrid touts an estimated 385 horsepower and an impressive towing capability at 6,000 lbs. Plus, you’ll get seating for 8 and best-in-class* cargo capacity behind the 2nd row.

This hybrid technology is designed specifically in this case to provide better fuel economy without sacrificing “real” SUV capability, and will likely serve as a template for future hybrid powertrain design in the automotive industry.

Will this setup be offered in the new Ram too or only in the Durango?

 

Only in the '09 Durango and Aspen willbe available withthis setup, however,the manager of the Hybrid Powertrain Program, Abdullah Bazzi, has hinted that this technology will likely be paired with other future nameplates... no official word yet though on timing or specific vehicles.

It should be similar at least, at the unveiling of the 09 ram they seemed pretty sure they will release the 2010 ram with an available hybrid system.

 

At this point it has been confirmed (as i'm sure you may have heard) that the 2010 Ram will come with an available HEMI Hybrid option.

In other news, official pricing was announced for the '09 Durango HEMI hybridthis week as starting out at $45,340 and can now be viewed on the Durango hybrid vehicle page. In addition to the pricing, it was also announced that customersare expected to recieve an estimated tax credit of $1,800.

That 45K price tells me nothing. What would be a Hemi Durango vs. the same optioned Hemi Durango but with the hybrid system? Looking for the difference in cost for the actual Hybrid system to get an idea what a 10 Ram will go for.
