Default Chrysler Signs Deal for Taiwan Minivan Production

DETROIT (Dow Jones/AP) - Chrysler Group has signed a contract with China Motor Corp. in Taiwan to produce Chrysler Town & Country minivans for the Taiwanese market.
Dieter Zetsche, president and chief executive of the U.S. arm of DaimlerChrysler AG, said the two companies will jointly market the new minivans, which are set to roll out in 2006. The minivans will be made at China Motor's plant in Yang Mei, Taiwan.

DaimlerChrysler said this will be a significant step in its strategy for Asia.

The minivans will complement passenger-car and commercial-vehicle production in the region, the company said.

Zetsche told reporters at the Detroit Auto Show that the Taiwan version of the Town & Country will be similar to the U.S. model, with minor variations for the local market. He said minivans now make up 10 percent to 12 percent of the vehicle market in Taiwan.
