Default Dodge hopes to improve truck sales with low prices.

The rising costs of fuel have caused a substantial decline in the truck market, and in an effort to keep their popular trucks at the top of the class, Dodge has released the pricing for the redesigned 2009 Dodge Ram. The base price for the new-look Ram is just $22,170, putting someone in a base model Ram for about a thousand dollars less than the current entry level Ram. If you want all of the bells and whistles available, the Dodge Ram Laramie Crew Cab 4x4 powered by the 5.7L Hemi tops the price list for the 1500 series at just over $44,000.

Dodge didn’t just give this truck a facelift and drop the price for 2009, but it is a completely redesigned truck, with an emphasis put on convenience and comfort stressed in every facet of the design process. This is evident in one major area, and that is in the new RamBox option on all new Dodge Ram models. This system places a storage compartment in the outer bedside, and that area offers 7.4 cubic feet of locking storage, or around 120 12 ounce beverage cans.

The engine in the $22,000 base model truck is the 3.7L offering 215 horsepower, but the big news is the work done to the 5.7L Hemi engine for 2009, as the power has been increased to 390 horsepower and 407 lb-ft of torque; making it the most powerful in its class. The third engine option, holding a middle of the road position, is the 4.7L V8 making 310 horsepower, and all three of these engine options are mated to either a four or five speed automatic transmissions and a wide variety of differential gearing options.

Dodge faithful are excited about the release of the Dodge Ram R/T, which has an introductory price of just $30,265, and comes equipped with the 390hp Hemi, and with the 5-speed automatic transmission and the bigger gearing tests have found that this Ram Sport can dash from 0-60 in under 6 seconds, making this the quickest truck in the market right now with the absence of the Ford Lightning and the Dodge SRT pickup.

There is no guarantee whether or not this lower price and redesign will be enough to help boost the failing light truck market, but with an expected new look for the Ford F150, Dodge’s big step in bringing down the price in the light truck market is likely to give them an advantage for now.
