Chrysler designing two replacements for Caravan and TC
Motor Trend:
Chrysler will design two replacements for its Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan, due about the 2013 model year. One will be a conventional replacement for its large, North American-market minivans and the other will use many of the same components, but will be built with a narrower track and shorter wheelbase for Fiat to sell in Europe, Motor Trend has learned.
Having two sizes also would give Chrysler the opportunity to separate the Chrysler minivan model from the Dodge minivan model in its Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge stores. While the new 2012-16 Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards will use "footprint" as one of its criteria, a smaller, more fuel-efficient Dodge Caravan would help raise Chrysler's corporate average.
