Should Dodge get rid of the cross-hair grille?
The cross-hair grille is only recent history for Dodge trucks. This grill design didn't start until 1986. Before that the 70-73 Dodge trucks' grilles could semi-sorta be called cross-hair grilles. Dodge trucks have been around since 1921. They have been longer without that grille than with them. Just going back to 1986 these grilles have been around for 25 years. That's a long run. I think it's time to move on and come up with a new look for the 21st century if for no other reason. I think it's time for another bold facelift like when the 2nd Generations popped on the scene and everyone oohed and aahed over them. I think the designers owe us that. I think... I think... oh hell, I think I've said enough.

I think the should keep the grilles. When the 2nd gens came out, everyone was amazed - because they are nice looking trucks..still are to this day. The 3rd gens came out, and once again I think are very nice looking trucks. The 4th gens I'm not wild about, but they will probably grow on me.
That said, like a couple of people have said, that's Dodge's way of standing out. You know it's a dodge as soon as you see the grille coming at you. I think think they should keep it. Find other ways to redesign them.
I do, however, think if they were going for something different like the challenger, where the grille would've looked funny, that it's ok to drop it occasionally.

No need to get angry Mantisman51, I thought this was a discussion. I didn't know we all had to agree or not post here. I am not trying by any means to pass myself off as an authority on anything but my opinion. That being said, I did look through the years spot-checking because I didn't remember these grilles in older models. I looked at mostly even numbered years since there were so many and yes I did miss 1957. In the years 1956 and 1958 you got two very different grilles from 1957. As far as 1970-1973 I did mention those. I looked at several examples of 1939 but I didn't see what you saw. Wouldn't mind seeing what you saw in the interest of fairness though. I saw quite a few nice grilles in some older trucks and especially like the three horizontal bars in a sort of diamond shape with the top bar shorter that the bottom bar that was recurring over the years in different variants. But cross-hairs I didn't really see other than some A-100's. Some models had 3 horizontal beams with a center brace behind it that if painted the body color instead of chrome they could give a cross pattern kinda. But I have to say that I've never seen a triple cross-hair on any of my scopes though. Just funnin'...
Once again, I wasn't trying to slight anyone and I respect others opinions. Just to let you know my truck has a cross-hair grille and while I like my truck it is not not my favorite grille design. My biggest complaint has nothing to do with the design but more with the cheap construction. BTW mine is a 1991.
However, here's some links at what I looked at.

The TC series truck had the name Dodge in the large + in the middle of the grill and that was kept for several years. I had a 1937 Dodge deuce and a half that had the same grill, but I suspect it had been changed to a newer style from factory. I would like to apologize for my tone. I am, however, passionate about our history, as I was raised in Dodge Coronets,500 sedans, Polara's, as well as numerous Darts and a 69 Charger. The point I was making is the crosshair grill has been used in one fashion or another for several decades, going back to the 30's. The crosshair grill is more Dodge than any other style element in modern Dodge's. Heck, even my 53 Dodge cabover (which I could kick myself for letting go) had a crosshair grill.
I too came from a Mopar family. My Dad bought a new 69 Plymouth Satellite with a 318 for a daily driver and later on a brand new 73 Dodge Dart with a 318 for my Mom. I have many fond memories of long trips from South Texas to California in both of these cars. I took over my Mom's Dodge Dart until some bee-auch totaled it by ramming it in a parking lot no less. Anyways, I took that settlement and bought a used 1971 Dodge Charger with a 318. I used to help my Dad work on these 318's all the time. Heck, we used to buy Direct Connection parts before it was called Mopar Performance. For years my Dad drove Dodge and Plymouth mini-vans. Later, when I had a good job, I bought a 2 year old 83 Dodge Shelby Charger from a beautiful saleswoman who taught me to drive stick. Later, I bought a 1971 Plymouth GTX that was by far the coolest "Car" I've ever owned. It was extremely fast with a 1968 D383 motor and a shift kit that made 2nd gear scratches in an automatic. It had some nice 5 spoke American Racing rims. I drove this one to California when I did my stint in the Army. It only had 78,000 miles on it when I sold it in a divorce sale. Some other rides have been a 1972 Chrysler New Yorker with a 440, a Dodge D150 Custom with a slant 6 a/t (M890?) and the coolest "truck" I've ever owned, and now a 1991 Dodge D150. I love Mopars too!
