This will only catch on if gas gets considerable more expensive than diesel. Right now diesel is more than gas. Most people only keep their cars 3-5 years anyway they could care less how long a diesel will last. Look at the liberty CRD. Sales are lackluster at best.

Actually, they sold around double the number last year that they originally intended to produce. This engine would offer acceleration around what the 4.7L model would have in the GC with much better fuel economy. It depends on where you live. Some places are very close between the price of gas and Diesel. The increase of Biodiesel useage will help lower the prices slightly. The fact is a Diesel engine will first being people to the dealerships with interest (whether or not they will buy the diesel model, this is a valuable thing to have because it is one of a kind in this price range). It will improve the image of the vehicle being a superior product. The reason why people some people don't hold on to their vehicles is the fact that they don't think it will last longer than 3-5 years. The reason why Toyota and Honda have been able to do so well in the last ten years is the fact that people think they are buying a more reliable car (even though they are not). If you can offer vehicles that will last a very long time with few problems, then you improve your quality image and can make yourself into a superior product. When being a superior product, you can charge a higher price for your products because the demand is high for superior products.
