Bluetec diesels to be used by (almost) all German automakers
Sounds good, except for "the urea injection system that pumps a small amount of ammonia-based acid into the exhaust stream, neutralizing many of the harmful emissions. The problem is, the urea bladder needs to be refilled periodically and unless there's a mandate set for all drivers to do so, the engines will run with no drama, but will pollute at a greater level." <-- That part. Only because these clean-running engines are not clean-enough for the tough California emissions standards [:'(].
I hope they not only decide to offer this in less expensive vehicles than MBs, but I also hope they choose to offer better gearing in the vehicles so then the real advantage can be seen, unlike what they are doing to the GC diesel. The reason why it is only supposed to get 19/23 mpg is because the gearing is so short. Short gearing kills good fuel economy.
