Larger HEMI Engine
Chrysler to boost HEMI?
With Ford preparing a high-displacement, high-power V-8 to counter the stunning success of the Chrysler Group HEMI engine, Chrysler itself may be ready with a counterpunch: a 6.1-liter HEMI with more than 375 hp. The Detroit News reports that Chrysler is already at work on the larger-displacement HEMI, based on the current 5.7-liter, 340-hp V-8. The HEMI has proven surprisingly successful in Dodge trucks and SUVs and in the Chrysler 300C, accounting for nearly half the engine orders in the new DodgeDurango. The larger HEMI engine, the News reports, is already being tested in the 2006 Dodge Charger prototypes running around Chrysler's plant in Brampton, Ont.
