Default 1500 Diesel coming!

Does anybody have info regarding this topic, especially the 1/2 ton light duty diesel?

DaimlerChrysler Canada to expand range of diesel vehicles

Windsor, Ontario - DaimlerChrysler Canada announced it will expand its range of diesel-engined vehicles available in Canada, including the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD, the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks with the Cummins 6.7-litre engine, and for the first time, a Dodge Ram 1500 light duty pickups after 2009. A fourth Chrysler Group diesel vehicle, the Dodge Sprinter, is currently also available in Canada.
DaimlerChrysler says these new clean diesel engines will provide owners with a dramatic increase in low-end torque, an average of 30 per cent better fuel efficiency and a 20 per cent reduction in carbon dioxide (C02) emissions when compared to an equivalent gasoline engine. Under loads such as towing, diesel engines can provide improvements in fuel economy up to 40 per cent.
"The evolution of clean diesel technology represents a tremendous value and environmental opportunity for Canadian drivers by improving fuel economy and achieving low emissions levels," said Reid Bigland, President and Chief Executive Officer of DaimlerChrysler Canada. "With DaimlerChrysler's global leadership in clean diesel technology combined with our Dodge and Jeep products, we believe we can help expand the consumer popularity of diesel technology throughout Canada."
The Dodge Ram Heavy Duty with the 6.7-litre Cummins turbo diesel will be available in Canadian Dodge dealerships in March, starting at $41,305 MSRP (excluding destination) for the Dodge Ram 2500 Regular Cab 4X2.
The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD will be available in Canada in March and offers class-leading torque, outstanding towing capacity (3,357 Kilograms), and class-leading driving range of approximately 725 kilometres, says the company. Clean diesel technology also improves fuel economy by up to 30 per cent and has up to 20 per cent fewer CO2 emissions. The 3.0-litre V6 CRD engine will be available in the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, Limited and Overland 4x4 models. The Canadian Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD will be announced at a later date.

....and...

WASHINGTON -- DaimlerChrysler AG said Tuesday it would be the first to market with a diesel heavy-duty pickup truck capable of meeting strict 2010 emissions standards in all 50 states.

At the Washington Auto Show, the automaker presented the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 heavy duty trucks, with a 6.7-liter turbodiesel engine. It would be significantly cleaner than its competitors, using traps and filters to nearly eliminate emissions from particulate matter and slash nitrogen oxides.

"When you think of the Dodge Ram heavy-duty pickup truck, you usually think of power, lots of torque and the ability to carry a big payload," said Tom LaSorda, chief executive of DaimlerChrysler's Chrysler Group.

LaSorda said the vehicle would be "the cleanest pickup truck in the marketplace."

DaimlerChrysler has outlined plans during the next four years to bring at least four vehicles to market with its clean-burning diesel technology, called "Bluetec." The technology uses filters and traps to reduce soot and nitrogen oxide emissions.

The government has been instituting tighter emissions standards for diesel engines and has required new ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel in the marketplace. The fuel and clean diesel technology work in tandem to reduce emissions.

In 2010, diesel engines will be required to emit about 90 percent less nitrogen oxide, building upon upgraded standards in recent years.

The Dodge Ram will be the first Chrysler Group vehicle with Bluetec, using an engine developed by Indiana-based truck maker Cummins Inc. Diesel engines provide about a 30 percent improvement in fuel economy, compared with conventional gasoline engines.

LaSorda also introduced a new clean diesel engine for Dodge Ram 1500 pickup trucks after 2009. The engine, also developed by Cummins, would provide a 30 percent boost in fuel economy and a 20 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, compared with equivalent gasoline engines.

Chrysler currently offers diesels in its Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee models, along with the Dodge Ram pickup and Sprinter van. Mercedes-Benz started selling an E-320 Bluetec sedan in the U.S. and Canada last fall.

The segment is expected to grow. J.D. Power and Associates projects that diesels will grow from 3.6 percent of the U.S. market to about 9 percent by 2013. [/align]
