Chrysler to Lose Top Exec To GM?
United Press International - August 23, 2004

Chrysler's CEO is reportedly in talks with the General Motors Corp. to move across Detroit as GM's new president for advanced vehicle development.

Wolfgang Bernhard, who helped create hot new products and pushed relentless cost-cutting, has apparently had a falling out with top brass at Chrysler's DaimlerChrysler parent in Germany, the Detroit Free Press reported Saturday.

GM's vice chairman and president of North American operations, Bob Lutz, has been talking to Bernard about a top position at the world's largest carmaker.

Bernhard is also said to be in discussions with Volkswagen, but would prefer GM if he is given the title of executive vice president and allowed to succeed Lutz, who oversees product development, the source said. Lutz is 72 but is not expected to retire soon.
