Default motor numbers help???

i have a 70 challenger 440 six pack and and the motor is not the one original to this car this car came with a 383 4 barrel from factory and the 440 was swapped in. On the side of the block on both pass and drivers side there is the numbers 2536430-8, i have seen similiar numbers im my books but they are all the same numbers except there -10 instead of -8. Why is this and what does the -8 mean? on the block just below the 2536430-8 there is an arrow pointing towards the N which means night and the hand on the clock pointing towards the 2 o'clock position. i understand these two castings. from what i have read there is supposed to be a flat spot just above the pan rail on the passenger side for some numbers to identify the motor. My motor does not have a flat spot or numbers here although it does not look like it has been ground down just that there is and was not a spot for numbers there. Why is this? My head numbers are 2843908 what does this mean? on the drivers ide on the top of the motor above the water pump there is a flat machined spot with stamping on it. the stamping is C440 and below those are 414HP. i am trying to identify what year and model of car my 440 came out of. a guy looked at my motor and said the harmonic balancer looked to be a big one like came on the high performance motors. Any info is appreciated, Blake.

Best I can determine from the info supplied:
2536430 is the standard casting number for a 440 block, from '66 to '72. Not sure what the -8 signifies.
The engine serial number should be on the passenger side of the block above the pan as you described. If it's not, it could be a warranty replacement block.
The head numbers I think are not correct- it's probably 2843906, closest to what you gave, which is the open chamber heads used on '68-'70 HP 383's and 440's.
The C440 stamping indicates it's a '67 model year 440, the 414HP is a Apr. 14 assembly date for an HP engine.

That is what your engine is, just as the spot by the water pump says. The serial #'s on the passenger side along the pan rail is the last digits of the VIN # of the car it originally came in.
