Default Help with identifying Engine?

Hey guys, I've picked up a '71 Challenger (Base Model) Which i bought unseen and was told it had its stock 318 LA in it, I notice now i've got it that its distributer cap is at the front, suggesting its a big block maybe a B or RB? I cant seem to find any useful serial numbers on it, where should i be looking? Or is there a better way to know exactly what engine it is? Thanks

If the distributor is in the front it's a big block. First look on the pad on the front of the block, Id may be there.

If not look on the side of the block and get the casting # off of it. That will tell you exactly what it is.

A "B" block may have numbers on the slanted pad in front of #2 cylinder bore.
The "RB" will have the pad in Moparite's picture.
