It will mean a lot of work...

The first thing would be to find a K-frame for the V8 engine, or at least the engine mount brackets for one. Probably the best thing to do is get a 273-powered Barracuda or Valiant or Dart that's reached the end of its life and start pilfering things which are different for the V8 installation from that.

Then there's the issue of the engine's electrical hookups. The Jeep no doubt has fuel injection and other modern fitments, so the computer system will be needed - or probably more simply, convert the engine to a more 'sixties and seventies' configuration with carburettor and ignition systems.

You can convert the magnum 318 to a carb and standard ignition. If you are putting in a V8 you should change the torsion bars also.

I'd have thought about torsion bars, too...

They would be there on a donor car as well as the K-frame and other potential assets. However, in Australia the same torsion bars were used for both V8 and Slant 6 cars and to me this means that the torsion bars would not be totally necessary. Something to check out properly.

Torsion bars have #'s on the ends, This # designates what motor they should be used for. A slant 6 is the smallest diameter of them all. The thicker they are the heavier the motor they can support.

I'd see if I could get a whole front sub frame from a V-8 donor. I think the ball joints might be heavier duty along with other heavier parts. I'd definitely go with the 10 inch brakes if it has the 9 inchers. Maybe go with discs in front. You're adding both weight and horsepower to it and while going fast is fun, especially with a rumbly exhaust. Stopping keeps the underwear clean though.

You can keep your K frame and get different mounts. Shumacher used to make them and I believe (not 100%) that Holley may have taken over the business. I know someone did if not Holley. Upgrade the torsion bars to V8 bars, PST may have them and most likely Mancini and others. Agree about upgrading the brakes.

Correction - US Car Tool purchased the Shumacher information and they are the ones making the mounts now.
