'70 'Cuda 340 value??? Updated with pics
ive done some looking around, and like you said, the TA and AAR were 360 heads, and the 1970 TA heads were the same thing as the J head the following year, with 2.20/1.60 valves...but it says that the TA heads received some special machining. it also says that some of the six pack cars had U or O heads, which was just the J head without the relocated pushrod holes.
Yes, but the only special machining that was done was drilling the intake pushrod holes in a different location and opening up the intake seats to 2.02". Otherwise, the castings were the same as the 360 heads. I don't know what the different letters mean, but the casting numbers on the early 360 and T/A heads were the same. That's just what I always went by.
I have seen some people comment that their 340 heads came with different letters from side-to-side. But I don't know if that was on T/A engines only or standard 340's also.

hmm..interesting.
unfortunately, my 340 didnt not come with heads...i have a 69 block and stock bottom end, but the heads are off of a newer truck 360.

I've owned a '70 Cuda 340 auto for the past 6 years. Bought it for $14,500 back in 2000. It had an all original motor, straight and clean body with a cheap sub-$1k paint job, and an interior in need of restoration. I've since hopped it up to the tune of about 425ish HP, and completely restored the interior to original. Being a current owner of one of these, I tend to follow the value of these things. A buddy of mine called me a few months back and said..."have you seen what these are going for?" He went on to tell me that a 340 'Cuda sold for $80k on Barrett-Jackson. Of course, you need to take that fact with a grain of salt. The car was obviouisly in pristine condition, numbers matching...yada, yada. And, Barrett-Jackson does tend to bring out the crazy, more money than brains contingent. But, this does give you the absolute upper range. He also mentioned that a buddy of his sold his 440 Cuda (in so-so condition) for about $60k. My advice would be to put a few grand into it, get it running, and clean up any major shortcomings. Classic cars are a lot like houses. Just a little sprucing up can pay dividends on the sale price. If I were to sell my car, I wouldn't take anything less than $45k. I think it would score about a 3 out of 5 on the Hemmings scale. That is, it's complete, runs, and has only minor blemishes when viewed up close.
By the way, I have a buddy with a 1970 Mach1 Mustang who tells me that the value on that car has been downgraded due to the new Mustang sharing many of the styling cues. Sooo...not sure how the upcoming Challenger in 2008 will affect us E-body guys. But honestly, I'll never sell my 'Cuda. I love it, rev it, and drive it!

Thanks to all for the replies. I think ??? I'll rebuild the stock 340 and get it rolling under its own power again and decide then what I want to do.

Yeah.. I would stick with everyone else and say around 15-20 grand, that is if you have the NM motor and tranny. The 4 speed trans will probally help you get in the low 20s.
All I can say is good luck on that one. And have fun while you still have whats left of it.
