Default 727 Trans question

I have a 70 Challenger with a 440 and a automatic, 727 with a 2400 stall converter and shift kit to a 3.23 posi rear end. Have more than enough power to smoke em and break them loose when I nail it, but when shifting at WOT (5500 to 5800 rpm) I barely get a chirp. With my Camaroit was a much harder shift and a real chirp with a 2200 stall.

The trans shop is telling me that Chryslertransmissions back then have a set pressure in the valve body and can not be adjusted or changed like a Chevy. Is this true or is he just trying to get out of going in and making adjustments? I know engines and most mechanical except transmissions.

Any help out there?

Thanks

Do you know what shift kit was installed in your TF-727? I remember helping my friend with his TF-904 for a '69 Barracuda that turned out very well with the kit that was installed...I also remember needing to enlarge the hole for the check valve on the valve body due to the level of firmness he chose. (Stage 2 with a B&M shift kit.) Though it's backing a built Slant 6, the car can definitely launch hard and if it was a small block, I'd say it could chirp the tires through each gear. Your 440 should definitely be able to chirp the tires if you had a good shift kit installed and all the proper steps were taken when it was assembled. The only thing I could see that could be holding the combination back is the somewhat high gear ratio, but then you'd be sacrificing the lower cruising rpm's. (the '69 B'cuda has a 3.91 Sure-Grip in it.) Perhaps the best trade-off would be 3.55 gears, but you should be able to chirp even with the 3.23's.

Found the problem. The kit I used is a Trans-Go TF-2. I had the trans rebuilt at the same time, and when he put the kit in he set it up as stock. Hopefully I will have time to bring it back next week and have him set it in street/strip set up mode, level 2. I do not need full race or track setting.

Even set in this mild mode it will give a slight chirp in 1/2, but 2/3 is very sad! Even nailing the gas at 20 mph will break the tires loose!

Thanks for the input!

My Roadrunner has a similar set up, engine, trans, gear, etc. and it breaks the tires loose with authority when it shifts into 2nd at 45mphand 3rd at 90mph when it's left in driveto shift itself. Your's should be doing the same, especially since it's lighter.

Amazing difference when set up is changed from stock to street/strip! Not only chirps 'em, just plain breaks loose!
