Default 1969 383 timing chain

I am going to be replacing a 1969 383 timing chain. What is
involved does the intake or pan need to be removed?
thanks for your help.

Nope- you will need to remove the water pump housing, (meaning fan, shroud if ya have one, alternator and PS pump along with it, etc...) and the bottom pulley and harmonic balancer, which will leave the timing chain cover accesible. Might want to remove the radiator to give yourself some working room since you'll have to drain the cooling system anyway, but it isn't required.

Thanks for your help. I have the engine apart and had set the crank to tdc compression#1. but the marks on the cam are 180 out. Should I be on tdc compresion#6 when Installing a chain. Sorry for the dumb questions I am used to fords they are done at tdc #1. Also it looks like the dist dosent need to come out It looks like I can swap the chain and just set the timing.

Thanks again

Distributor does not need to come out for timing chain change.
