Default 66 charger gauges

On my '66 Charger the guages are a little finicky. Tach goes in and out, oil does not work, fuel does not work. I assume the fuel level sensor is bad. I don't have an oil pressure sending unit on the engine, but don't see any electrical connection for it. The lights don't work either. I had the transformer rebuilt, but they still are not turning on. Does anyone have a source that rebuilds the assembly? Any tips regarding disassembly, avoid breaking brackets etc? Thanks for the help.

Year One is probably your best source for quality, correct instrumentation items. I would tend to agree the fuel tank float may be your culprit for gas gauge. Oil pressure sending unit should be in back of motor, behind intake manifold (if Big Block V8). Water temp has sending unit in water pump housing, usually wire w/ smal boot. Overall, it does sound as if you may have a short or something in the circuits in your dash. I cannot recall if '66 had a circuit board on reverse of dash (my '68 does). These are crude by today's standards but are a "map" of the curcuitry for the dash.

Good luck

It is a big block car. I see where the pressure sending unit goes there, do you know where the wire that goes to it comes from? I am pretty sure year one isn't going to have the guages for the '66. It is tough to find parts for these cars.

Go over to the 66-67charger.com forum. It is dedicated to the 66-67 Chargers and Ibet someone over there can tell you what you need.

Have the same problem in my 66.... most likely, the voltage limiter went south and fried a couple of the gauges. You will probably need to have the cluster rebuilt- that's my plan as well. Do your dash lights work?

jc auto restorations will rebuild cluster for $$$$. as for the electroluminent lighting make sure you have 12 volts going into transformer (orange wire) and a/c voltage coming out of it on white wire and dont touch the metal or you WILL get zapped like sticking your finger in light socket.
