I have a 69 charger R/T with paint code y-4 light gold poly listed on the build sheet. The books i have say this paint code was only used on 1970 chargers. i believe my charger was late 69 build and have been told the factory used a 70 paint on a 69. can anyone chime in on this and clarify the situation. car is in resto shop and almost ready for painting the underside and want to ensure all is kosher and shop gets the correct paint. codes from the Herd restoration guide state ditzler y-4 is code 2117 and dupont code for y-4 is 5086L for light gold poly. anyone shed some light on this?? also need to know who does best chrome on bumpers. order several sets and all of them are unacceptable. thanks in advance. brian

 

It does happen. My 69 road runner has a '70 color on it...found this out, like you when restoring it. Typically called a "Spring Edition" color. Suppose they were somewhat "introducing" the color.

My Galen Govier book shows your Y4 as "Spanish Gold Metallic and lists it as a 1969 color. FY4 is 1970 and called "Mystic Gold". As for paint mixes I've always stuck to PPG shops for these old colors, but that's purely personal choice.
