70 Charger engine swap 318 to 440
Hi everybody - I have a 1970 Dodge Charger, base model with a 318.
I'm wanting to put a 440 engine ... i'm having difficuly finding out what transmission i have and if it'll work with a 440. Any ideas?
Question 2 ... what other parts will i need to change? Here's a "change" list i got "off the top my head" so far:
1. Will i need a new rear differential?
2. New motor mounts.
3. New headers.
4. New water pump.
5. New fuel pump.
6. New radiator.
7. Will i need new front suspension?
Thanks y'all!

Unless you have a stick, you will need a Big Block transmission, if you do have a stick you will need to change the bellhousing to the BB one.
As for the rest of the list...
1. If you want it to last more than a week, yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
4. The 440 should have one on it, if not, yes
5. See answer #4.
6. From a 318 to a 440, I'd recommend using a big block radiator
7. Bigger torsion bars at the very least
8. You shouldn't have to mess with the K-frame at all ( but that doesn't always hold true).
9. You will need the engine harness for a 44o as well (unless you want to try and make the 318 harness work)
There's probably more, but it's getting late and I'm tired, so the brain ain't working so well right now.

You should go larger fuel line from tank forward since SB line is smaller, especially if you're planning anything beyond a stock build 440. I would upgrade nonetheless, even if stock.
Your rear springs may need to be upgraded as well, but you can see how it performs first. I suspect you'll get "axle wrap" on hard launches w/ stock 318 springs, especially if running radials or other tires w/ some bite.
Good luck
