^^ I agree with him. SCAT makes an awesome stroke crank. My answer to your question? Yes you can punch out a 318 that far. You just need some adjustments. Just my 2 cents.

Default RE: Charger 318 engine rebuild question

no you can not bore a 318 to a 340 bore. You will hit water jackets. You can not put a 318 or a 340 crank in a 360. the 360 has larger main journal size. The 318 273 and 340 all have the same stroke but there cranks are all very differnt. 273 in 1964 till 1968 used a steel crankshaft. 318 always came with a cast crank shaft. 340 used steel crankshaft with drilled rod journals until the 72 when it went to a cast crankshaft that was externally balanced. If you use the later model 340 cranks shaft you have to have the proper weights on the tourqe converter and the matching externally balanced harmonic balancer. If it were me I would just use a 360 as my basis for my build up and add some bolt on hop up stuff. In the mid 90s mopar offered a 360 that made 360 horsepower that was really rather mild. I believe it used Keith Black Hypernurtechnic pistons...heads with 2.02 intake valves and a good single plane highrize manifold. there is other stuff but i dont have the specks on it. I know the cam was pretty wild for a crate motor of the time.

Default just starting rebuild

Hey Guys,

I live in Sydney, Australia and have owned a 318 for the past 6yrs which has been sitting on my garage floor for the past 6yrs (6yrs to long) have come across some good fortune and ready to bring it back to life.

I am aiming to put it back in to a 1972 Charger?

Have just finished stripping the motor down to a bear block and want to rebuild (work it) add fuel injection plus supercharge it ,with all new internals to push out around 500hp?

My question what is the best product on the market today for internal parts to handle the HP I am looking for and to get maximium performance what combination of components would best suit (running gear) from front to back?

Any advise would be of a big help. THX

Hughes engines or Indy Cylinder Head are two that come to my head,
