restore a 74 Roadrunner?
Found a 74 Roadrunner with a 440 in a guys yard. The care does not run. The guy asked for $1K, but I think i can talk him down a few hundred dollars.
Does anyone know....
How hard is it to restore the engine, and body on these old Roadrunners?
Find parts?

Most people talking about buying $1000 cars is for a parts car, not a car to restore. $1000.00 doesn't get you very many restore parts these days. I can't imagine what the car looks like but you ask how hard is it to rebuild. Its all about money. If you have money you can restore anything. Now is it worth it? Thats the question. Parts are always a tough thing to find although there are alot of aftermarket repop parts on the market now for many of the popular year A,B,and E bodies. I would think a 74 Runner would be a less popular model so parts would be more difficult to find. Its all in what you want. As long as the block is cracked or damaged it can be rebuilt, somebody can do sheetmetal work and restore the car to almost original but the name of the game is $$$$$$$$$$$$
How many engines have you rebuilt or how many cars have you done sheetmetal/body work on? Unless you can do alot of the work yourself its costly to redue these cars. Heck people are paying $1000 for old rusty OEM 1970 radiators these days. Imagine buying all the parts you need to restore that Runner.[sm=confused06.gif]
Good Luck to you are your future mopar adventures!!![sm=smiley20.gif]

Pics would help. If the body is solid, that would go along way in determining whether it's worth it or not. If it's an original 440 car (5th character in VIN is a 'U') it's certainly worth looking at, as they are fairly rare. Mechanically, all the parts are available for it. It's the body that would be the most expensive and hardest to find parts for, as the 74's have very few repop parts available.
All the mechanical parts, engine, trans, suspension, etc. are easy to find and fairly plentiful. Your problem will be the exterior parts which are very hard to come by since they are not the big RR years like the '68-'70. The interior parts are easy to get as well, it's just the exterior parts your gonna have a hard time with.
Thanks for the info guys, thats exactly what i was looking for. Ill try to get some pics today.
After all the comments,im thinking about just selling the parts now (if I even get it).
