Possible SRT8 Buyer, Need Help.....
Hey everyone, I usually hang out in the streep/strip section, but I have a question for you guys. My wife and I are thinking about trading our Audi A4 in on either a 300C or Charger SRT8. So here goes:
1. What good/bad things do you have to say about the car???
2. Any reliability issues?
3. Do they respond well to mods?
4. Is there good aftermarket support?
5. How would you compare them to a Cadillac CTS-V (our other candidate)?
Thanks in advance.......

Wow, thanx for all the responses, you guys are really helpful. I guess if your cars suck so bad that you have nothing to say about them, I'll go buy a CTS-V instead. Later.........
87,
I own a 2006 Daytona Charger R/T and have 16,000 miles on it -- it is the sister, er, little sister to the SRT8. The cars are identical in most cases except the SRT mods (engine, tranny, drive train, brakes, and suspension). My Charger is 1/2 second slower in the 1/4 mile, but I get better milage with the MDS (drops the four outside cylinders to save gas during crusing speeds). Anyway, I really want the SRT8, but I can't give up my "prettier" Mango colored car. People love it. I love it. But the SRT8 looms in the back of my mind with its monster 425 HP motor and a sound that will, well, make you light headed. But to try to answer your questions from an owner of a Charger:
I have had no problems or troubles; mine has responded to mods quickly and you really don't need to do much, depending on your taste; good support for aftermarket stuff; CTS-V is nice, but in my opinion, the Charger is a well built car with great ride, comfort and performance (SRT8 runs in the 13.5's with 5 second 60' times and takes to mods like a fish in water).
You'll have to be the final decision maker, but the fit and finish on my Charger is very good, where I'm not sure about the more expensive V.
Good luck.

Thanks, I was just kinda pissed that out of 20 hits, no one could offer any advice or help, but it's cool. We'll have to test-drive both before we make the final decision, but I'm coming out of a 6-speed 350Z, and the wife out ofa 5-speed A4, so the fact that the CTS-V is manual-only attracts us, but it'snot a deal-breaker.The fact that the SRT weighs 4,100 lbs is pretty hard to swallow, too. Just depends on the test-drive, I guess. Although considering our young ages, I imagine that alone might be hard enough to pull off, lol
I guess I would first suggest a little patience. A few days wait is not that much on forums like these.
In any case here is what I found with my Charger.
1. The navigation system is not the best. Its blown away by the Garmond models.
2. The brakes dirty up the wheels that keeps me washing them. I hear there are better brake pads somewhere.
3. Gas mileage is about 17.8 all around
4. The car is fun and can beat most anything on the road. I raced a very new Vette and it very close.
5. The comfort is outstanding for a performance car. I havent seen anything that is even close. It rides great front and back has lots of room and is very practical
6. The radio manual is not the best. I still cant figure out how to do a scan. The manual shows a scan button but the radio/nav has no scan. Go figure.
7. Would I buy it again after having it for 4000 miles. Yes.
I hope that helps anyone who is thinking about buying one.
Cheers,

Why dont you post this in the regular charger forum. There are not that many srt8 owners so there are not many on a forum. Oh, and calm the **** down.

I posted in this section because I specifically was interested in the SRT8 model only. It's just kinda frustrating when after 40+ hits, only 1 person had replied. It just seems like the cars owners' either don't have anything to say about them (which makes them look bad), or the owners are stuck-up. I was trying to get some info from real owners, and see if anyone who owned one alsoconsidered buying, ormaybe drove the CTS-V. But I think I have my mind made up, and we're going w/ the Caddy. As much as I like the SRT8, it's just too big, runs 4 grand more on average, and is only available in auto. The Cadillac's tranny was a big selling point. Besides, judging from the replies, or lack thereof, I don't think I fit the demograph for the Mopar, or wish to be mistaken as the type of person I now have the impression whom drive them. But it's cool, thanx to those who had something to say, and enjoy your rides.......
Well the CTS-V looks pretty good at 9.6 lbs / hp vs my 9.8 . I haven't sat in one so I dont know what the comfort level might be, but my charger would be hard to beat.
The CTS-V only comes with a 6 speed. So thats it for me. I really dont want to have to shift anymore in my everyday car. So the charger is the car for me event thought he CTS-V looks like a fun car to ride around in and is very evenly matched to my SRT-8.
