Charger SRT-8 That thing got a Hemi? Indeed, a 6.1L Hemi that is. The Dodge Charger SRT-8 pounds the pavement with severe power.

How can I tell?

Default How can I tell?

I just bought an '07 SRT-8, but I'm finding more performance mods the original owner made each day. (yes, it's kinda fun finding them)

Anyway, I just noticed this morning that the car was holding steady at about 180 degrees rather than about 215 which seems to be normal. Now I'm wondering if the PO put in a 180* stat to compliment a chip or reprogram.

How do I tell if this is the case? I figure I probly need to just drop by the dealer and ask them to check the program to see. I realize I could pull the CPU and look too (if it's a chip).

Here's the weird part. The car sometimes holds steady at about 215 degrees. Then it drops to about 180, then up to 220, etc. This is after it's totally warmed up, so it's not like it's just the cycling thing it does as it equalizes on initial warmup. Weird.

Default UPDATE

I dropped by the dealer and asked some questions.

The service advisor didn;t like the fact that the car had catback, CAI and throttle body spacer on it, but wouldn;t go as far to say it would kill my engine warranty.

He DID say that any performance chip or performance reprogram of the ECU would 100% void the warranty.

Now I'm left with a sinking feeling that they're going to try to screw me. I'm debating bringing it in in the morning to have them scan the ECU to see if it's factory set or not. If not, I plan to have them put it back to factory settings and note my file as something I did immediately upon buying the car so that I would not affect the warranty. Is this my best bet? I REALLY want to maintain the warranty coverage.

Oh........Is the ECU that box right by the right shock tower? If so, maybe I can pull it out tonight and look for an aftermarket chip before I take it in. Might give me a little better knowledge going in.

Default UPDATE II

Well well well. I pulled the ECU out and guess what? There's a Jet chip plugged in.

Normally I'd be excited that I got yet another free mod included withthe car, but since I'm concerned about the warranty I'm not quite so happy.

New question (I think I'll start a new thread gfor this one):

If I were to remove the chip and reset the ECU memory by pulling the #11 (I think) fuse, would this erase ALL record of the chip having been installed?

Not that this is a bad forum but the truth is no one really uses it. go to LX fourms or dodge charger forums or srt8 Forums etc. As far as your question the dealer is a *** so go somewhere eles. I personally would not go near jet chips. As the best next to a custom tune would be diablo sports programmer check it out and the other forums and I am sure the questions to your answers will be found.
