Got the VON # on a Magnum SRT-8 today.

Called DXC to find order status.

"BX- Passed edit available for schedule"

Guess that means hurry up & wait...[:'(]

I'm just starting the order process, and the dealer is supposed to get back to me regarding the Magnum SRT. My question is what is the typical wait time to get your vehicle, or will the dealer tell me that when I get my VON?

Any help is appreciated.

When your dealer enters the order into DealerConnect, they will instantly get a VON - my salesperson did it while I looked over his shoulder. The system allows them to print a proof sheet which you can verify the order from - this does not have a VON.

PURE SPECULATION 1: It seems likely that some dealerships (like the mega-dealers) don't allow the average salesperson to play with DealerConnect - if this is the case, your order will get passed via paper to someone who then logs in to DealerConnect - which introduces the potential for screw-ups. If I had to order again, I'd make sure to ask for someone who could place the order while I waited. Showing up at an off time helps - no salesman or sales manager wants to mess with special orders when customers are walking around on the lot.

I ordered a Magnum SRT on 5/17 and called yesterday the DCX customer service number and was told it was in BX status and that this meant that the order passed the edits but the dealer had no allocation for Magnums this month (June). The customer service rep suggested I call the dealer and ask how many other Magnum orders they had placed ahead of mine. The way he explained it, if you are the 6th order in the dealer's queue and they get an allocation for 5 Magnums, you are out of luck until the next month.

PURE SPECULATION 2: I bet the sales managers, who understand allocations and know how to manipulate the system to get the cars they want, are sitting on some of the SRT special orders. I have heard that in order to get the popular models, DCX will make a dealer take the slower-moving models as well and then let the dealer worry about how to move the unpopular models off the lot. If I was a dealer and had to eat 20 stripper Neons to get one SRT or I could get 1 Magnum RT with no Neons, I know what I'd order. IMHO, if you can't get a VON after a few days, you dealer is jerking your chain.

My dealer told me it would be 3 months minimum before I'd see my car. Once you get a VON and get to BX status, it's all about allocation - and that all depends on the size of your dealer and how many vehicles they have been moving for DCX.

PURE SPECULATION 3: From DCX's perspecive, their customer is the dealer, not you and me. Big dealers are big customers and get special treatment. This is why Koons Chrysler (one of the biggest dealers in the Mid Atlantic) has 2 SRT8's in stock and no other dealer in the area does. If you place an order, be sure you can cancel and get your deposit back because you might be surprised what you will find on dealer lots in 6 months (while you are still in BX status...)

Good luck,
RP

The salesman I spoke with told me they have 2 MAG's on order but have no VIN or VON. They said they will just show up and they don't know when. Is he full of it? He said they are both black/ If they are ordering them wouldn't they know what they are getting? What package or does DC tell them. Here you get these....?

SRT - Just read you post and called the 800# to check status on my order and am on hold. Was told that the computer showed, "passed edit....available to be scheduled if allocation is available" I asked him to clarify with a superior what this meant and he just came back on the line and said that it means that everything is going as scheduled and my car will be produced however they cannot give me any other info and that I should stay in contact with my dealer. Well, I guess the good news is I am still in the system and there was nothing negative. The bad news is I still have no idea when I'll see the car.

I keep a pretty good watch on all of the forums and I have not heard of a single VIN# yet on a Magnum SRT8. I am going to re-post this on the "Private" area on the Brampton site after I post this and see if they have anything to add. I assume that whomever get's their VIN# on one of these cars will post that info immediately on one or all of the forums I monitor.

Vegas SRT-* shopping odyssey.

Well, I have a VON# for an SRT-8 Magnum (black - fully loaded). I have been in touch with 3 dealers here in Vegas who have told me progressively lower prices. The first was through the Costco membership program and was the most surprising ($15,000 over MSRP) -- we literally just bought a new fully loaded Toyota Sienna XLT this weekend for my wife for $250 under dealer invoice - with no haggling (A very nice buying experience.) and the Dodge dealer called me with the "good news" while I was actually buying the Toyota. Anyhow the 2nd dealer quoted me $52,500 and the third has it for $45,500. The third is the one I've signed up with and issued me a VON # and a delivery estimate of about 10 weeks.

I'm hoping to find a dealer who can get me as good of a deal as some of the other guys who have posted here in the forum, but it looks like the best I can do is the $45,500 price (MSRP on the model I chose is $43,235).

I'm willing to go to Utah, Arizona, or California to get a good deal, but it looks like each dealer has been allocated 2 SRT-8s each and they are already starting the "tough-luck-buddy" talk.

What do you guys think of the $45,500 price? Should I keep looking? I have a one more favor I'm trying to call in, but we'll see.

Grab it! I just got my VIN today and I'm D status. I ordered the Kicker too! They said it should hit the production line in 2-3 weeks. Looks like August may be a reality. I going to Sturgis, SD for the motorcyle deal on the 11th of August so I'm sure it will probably hit here on the 10th so I can suffer a few more days. Comming home on the 14th so it won't be too bad.

Thanks KK. Have fun in Sturgis... In the meantime I'm enjoying seeing all the photos in these forum threads.
