Default $10,000 over sticker - Happy Ending

I went to my local (Torrance, CA) dealer last week. After test driving a magnum srt8 and indicating that I wanted to buy it, the salesperson told me that the cost would be $10,000 over sticker, which he subsequently lowered to $7,500. I walked.

I got a call yesterday, and they offered $2,500 over sticker. I told them that I was thinking of abandoning my SRT8 plan and that, despite offering $500 over sticker when I was there last week, my offer was now the sticker price. The salesperson called me back a few hours later and told me I could have it for sticker. Definitely something other potential purchasers to keep in mind.

On the bad side, they tried to screw me with a 6.5% interest rate, which seemed a "bit" high, given the fact that I have A1 credit and was putting $10,000 plus my trade in, which they accurately valued at about $1,000 (yes, $1,000) dollars. They came back with 5.7% and I took it only because it was the car/options I wanted and I didn’t to **** around any more. There is probably a lesson there - when they call to say you can have it at sticker, be sure to negotiate the rate over the phone before heading down to the dealer.

Good luck to everyone else. Thanks for all of the suggestions/comments that followed by last post.

Too many dot-commers with too much money up there.

You might want to use your local dealers to figure out what options you want, then the dodge.com inventory seach to see who has the set-up your looking for in stock, and just call and tell them you'll fly down and buy it that day for sticker.

Also, this is a quote from a post in the www.lxforums.com board -- "Cerritos Dodge will sell for MSRP, and they have 9 of them in D right now, one of them being mine. The contact there is James Hinkle, good guy."

Good luck.

Hah, I'm glad you worked him Joe. They must have had a semi rough time selling them or they wouldn't have let you go with sticker.

That dealership walked me twice!!! I hate it! They are arrogant and unhelpful (most of them, anyways) Went to Spirit Dodge in El Monte. They bent over backwards (instead of me bending forwards). Got a great rate and they got me out of my upsidedown lease (never doin' that again) with a more-than-fair trade-in allowance. My credit was iffy and I got a 6.9. That was back when the Hemi ram first came out as well (March of '03). They're service dept. is great as well. The Manager there took really good care of me after my accident. BTW, they regularly sell SRT-4s there at or below sticker.
