SRT's on the Speed Channel - Bogus!
This is a post I made on the 300C forum about the show that the Speed Channel did on the SRT's today. It will play again on the 24th and several time after that. Sorry for the re-post but this is how I really felt after watching it. I will re-post this re-post elsewhere. Sorry!
I am so pissed off right now! I TIVO'd this show. They actually showed a Red Magnum SRT8 in the background a couple of times! But that was it! And then the idiots that put this piece together go on down the line and tell everyone that there are only 6 SRT vehicles. While there are plainly 7 SRTs in the background. Where the heck was someone from Dodge when they shot this thing? (Oh! Sorry! I forgot! The Charger is what they're pushing now!)
That makes me sick! I am so tired of our vehicles (Magnums) being the "bastard child" in the LX line-up! And when you stop and think about it. Which LX platform really attracted the most attention? Hands down! The Magnum!
After I watched the first half of this thing, I just fast-forwarded through it, looking for one Magnum.
OK! Go with me on this! I'm actually watching the damn thing again on TIVO as I write this.
I just pushed the "PAUSE" button. I'll take a break from my "diatribe" and tell you all that the SRT6 Crossfire was the fastest car at the Laguna Seca SRT TE. (other than the Comp Coupe I rode in) It was fastest in the 1/8 mile drag strip and on Laguna Seca's twisties. If you watch closely, they show the SRT6's speedo. It's got a top end of 200MPH! This thing was unbelievable!
I am really disappointed that DCX allowed them to "dis" the Magnum like that. In my opinion, the Magnum (2004 & 2005) brought the most attention to the LX platform. (see the 27" TV in the back and a load of lumber" commercials) No doubt the Chrysler 300 is the "King of the LX's" and sells the best/most. But I do not think anyone can argue that the Magnum was the car that really brought the general public's attention to the LX platform.
I love that they thought that the SRT cars were worth an hour program but I really think they missed the mark on what the SRT and the LX platform is really all about. The Magnum continues to be the car that makes people , "crane their necks", when one drives by. I do not mean to take anything away from the new Charger vehicles, but there is no way that they attract the attention like the Magnum has attracted, and continues to attract today.
As I said. I am re-running the Speed Channel program, in the background, as I write this. Did anyone notice that when Tommy Kendall is challenging Tommy Archer on the drag strip that Kendall says to Archer? "Skin that smoke wagon!", just before they launch the Chargers? Was that like a Freudian slip or what?
Watching the program further, I must take a moment to bring attention to myself! Just after the above dialog, while he's driving the Charger around the track with one hand on the wheel, Archer talks about helping with the development of the Viper "Comp Coupe". I actually got to take two laps around Laguna Seca in that same "Comp Coupe"! (Thanks Jeff!) (see http://www.quartzsitervshow.com/lagu...a_11-19-05.htm )
Actually, the re-run of the original program is still going on as I write this. They're doing the Jeep Cherokee SRT8 portion now, so I'm going to wait before I sign off in case they **** me off some more.
I am now watching someone drive the Viper, and he just mentioned the "RED Button". Well! When I got into my first Viper at Laguna Seca, it was just after lunch and they were cold. (Not left running) I was so nervous about just getting into the damn thing and then trying to "belt-up", that I could not figure out how to start it. Finally, one of the instructors pointed out that "RED BUTTON" on the dash! I pushed it. It started. And then I did two laps on Laguna Seca and it was some of the most fun I have ever had in my life!
I just finished watching the whole damn hour while writing this and they end the show by saying. "With so many SRT vehicles to choose from, the question isn't 'Is SRT right for you?' It's "Which SRT is right for you?"
And they nver even show you the 7th SRT. Which is, perhaps, the most unique SRT car of them all.
IMHO!
