Annoying transmission behaviour
Is anyone else as frustrated as I am with the poor response time our transmissions suffer from?
For one, I find autostick almost useless for performance driving. I can't even get close to shifting at redline in autostick, for if I do, the engine will bounce off the rev limiter due to the huge lag time. Heck, even in automatic mode the car has bounced off the rev limiter!
Does anybody know if the SRT team will be providing some sort of update for the transmission that will eliminate all the terrible shift lag?
I've had 727 torqueflite trannies in both the Darts that I have owned over the years. Needless to say, I am somewhat disappointed that the 30+ year old automatics in my old Dodges can outshift the pants off the one in my new Dodge.

I have that same complaint GS Motorsports has that shift thing thats suposed to help with that but I've asked about but no one has any feed back about it.
I would be very curious about any fixes for this problem

I just read that the NHTSA released a service bulletin involving our transmission problems (#1803105). I'm not sure how these work, but if I take my car to the delearship and notify them of this service bulletin, will they fix the problem?
I have a srt8 magnum and am frustratred by the shifting performance as well. I need it to be much quicker and decisive.
I will be monitoring the post here to see if anyone comes up with the answer - working on it from my end as well.
The perfect fix in my opinion by dodge, tell me if anyone agrees, is to put a full manual shift trans in the car. PLEASE !!!
It would be awsome !

i think thats how it works. doesn't hurt to ask a dealer.
That is because Chrysler new how to make a good transmission and Mercedes doesn't. I don't like the fact that Chrysler is using a Mercedes transmission when they can build better than this[:@].
The only issue I have is the 1-2 shift where it hits the rev limiter and cuts out for a second. All other gears are just fine and I'm able to do pretty much whatever I please with mine.
Mine also shifts very solidly from gear to gear under WOT, no detectable hesitation.

After talking with the shop they say its the new technogy so you dont burn up the tranny. Try not to punch it right before it shifts automatically or it will cut off for an 8th of a sec. this is not a problem with the tranny its there for a reason. Dodge already had a bad wrap with bad trannys so mercedes changed that and uses this as a problem solver...
Here's an excerpt from the "Actual" chrysler tsb for "Shift Hesistation During Wide Open Throttle"
"Randomly during a wide open throttle condition the engine RPM goes beyond the fuel
cutoff point before the 1-2 upshift is made. This causes a short hard bump at the beginning
of the shift. It is more likely to occur if the vehicle is traveling around 15 MPH and then the
throttle is pushed to wide open (WOT).
This condition is caused by the TCM not being able to calculate the correct engine speed
at which to initiate the shift."
The solution is an updated program for the Transmission Control Module.
Do with this what you will, but it will not solve the hesistation felt when
intialing stepping on throttle. That is the delay due to fly by wire setup. There unfortunately
is no cure for that, just adapt to it.

My feelings EXACTLY!
06MNRT told us that Dodge is coming out with an updated computer program to "HOPEFULLY" fix hitting the rev limiter hit problem, in both automatic and manual mode. He said it would be out in a month+.
As for the lack of solid shifts, and the comments from other members saying their's is fine, I'm with you! If you think this one shifts well, you have never driven a car with a good automatic! Dodge isn't the only automaker who has built solid shifting automatic transmissions over the years. In my opinion, all I've read about the programming protecting you from blowing a transmission is Dodge BS. Dodge is just protecting their backside from warranty maintenance. My dealer even told me that Dodge was experiencing excessive motor mount failure by police drivers, so they blocked shifting from reverse to drive until the car comes to a stop! Try backing out into heavy traffic and finding that the thing won't move for what seems like a REAL LONG time! If they had only offered a 6 speed manual...
I've contacted Hypertech and SuperChips, and neither have a 6.1 re-programmer on the market yet. Both say one's coming, but won't say when. I'm on the list at both places and will definately buy.... From my multiple experiences with Hypertech, I bet they'll fix the problems...
