Track your cars shipping status for free
I now have my SRT8 Charger, but in my desperation to find out when it would arrive I found a great site that lets you follow the railcar your vehicle is on. This is info that needs to be out there because it will make the wait for your car less painful. Best of all this service is free and you don’t need a login! Now you can trace your car as soon as it is loaded on a railcar. No more waiting for updates form your dealer. With this info you’ll be able to call your dealer and tell them when your car arrives at the unloading dock. As far as I know this only works on the Union Pacific railroad. This system gives real time updates….not like the couple time a week updates you get with Dealer Connect or other sources. You can actually see the train car go from city to city. Warning….you’re going to be glued to your monitor watching your railcar move across the country. Here’s how you do it:
Step one: Call your dealer and find out what your railcar number is. They can get the number on Dealer Connect. You may have to push some as many of the dealers I talked to didn’t know how to get this number. The numbers usually have 3 or 4 letters followed by 6 or so numbers. Here are some of the railcars I have tracked: ttgx964332 and CNA703113. Keep in mind if your car is sitting in the lot Bramton or somewhere else it won’t have a railcar number yet. This only works if your car is on a train.
Step two: click on the link below. If that doesn’t work cut and paste it. This link will bring you to a Motor Vehicle Equipment Trace page. Enter your Equipment ID (railcar number). This should immediately show where your railcar is. If you check it again 30 minutes later it will likely be in a different place and often times even faster than that. I had another window open in Mapquest so I could see it go from town to town. Only problem I had with this was that I stayed up all night watching the railcar move.

The following link shows maps of the Union Pacific. This will help you see the route your car may take on the railroad.

That’s it. That all it takes. This info may look different depending what browser you use. For me IE worked the best. Firefox seemed to lose some of the pictures and format. If for some reason the links above don’t work go to www.up.com and do a search for vehicle trace. You may have fun cruising their site. They have explanations of terms, maps, railroad outage news, and more. Remember when all those rumors were swirling about railroad delays because of the hurricanes? After looking at the railroad news on this site I saw that there were no delays when people were saying there were.
Just thought I should also say I’m not a UP employee nor do I play one on TV. I was just an anxious future Charger owner looking for good updates as to where my car was. I subscribed to the Services of LXinfo, Autorail, Dealer Connect, and more. I even had a person at Insight logistics (they handle all the transportation of DCX vehicles) helping me track and expedite my car. Hope this works for everyone. Let me know if you have any questions.
