426 vs. 6.1L Hemi
Hey all!
Anyone here ever drive their SRT-8 against an old 426 Hemi powered car?
The reason I ask is that a friend of mine just finished putting together his (beautiful) Sassy-Grass-Green 1970 Hemi Challenger clone, and we haven't had the chance to have a full on race yet (we always bump into each other during busy traffic times- yargh!). He has a 4-speed pistol-grip shifter and a 3.91 geared Dana 60 at the back. The Hemi he installed is to stock specifications (it was originally a 340 car) and the suspension/drivetrain setup is perfectly matched to what it should be for a 426 car.
We had a quick go of it once, but only made it up to about 40 mph or so before we had to slow down. Prior to slowing, my Charger was pulling ahead by a fair margin. However, everyone knows that the 426 Hemi doesn't start turning on until you get into the higher revs, thus I'm not sure what to expect if we raced with an open road ahead of us. Sine his is one of two 426 Hemi musclecars that I know of to exist in my city, I have no frame of reference to go by. (The other Hemi is a '69 GTX that is driven like a fishing boat by it's owner (ie. not taken above the posted speed limit) so he is of no help to me. LoL)
Any thoughts?
