Default Big block in A body Dart

I have a ? has anyone put a big block in there Dart or A body? I was Looking for a 340 But no luck yet. Car came stock with a 318 and 904 tranny. There is a 440 and tranny in my local paper for $475. So it got me thinking how hard would this be? I know its Been done before and the factory did it too. What all needs to be done ? How much$. How much to rebuild the 440 and Tranny ? Thanks

Why not just look for a 360, a lot less hassle than a BB conversion, and they are plentiful.

Agree with Mr340, a 360 would drop in. To do a 440 you would need to upgrade your k-member (the front suspension in general and your linkages would have to be changed to work the the new setup. Can be done but be prepared to spend some time and money putting it all together.
Mopar Muscle just did an article, this month or last, on upgrading the 318. You might check it out.May even be cheaper to upgrade than buying a 360. Just another idea.

i would even try it, way too much work. like the previous posts, go for a 360. udont have to worry about suspension, just put solid motor mounts on and drop it in.i run a 360 crate motor in my 73' duster. mines been rebuilt with some extra workdone to it but, its easier and cheaper. i spent around $6,000.00 for mine to be rebuilt and now im running 11.70s on a good air day, also its street legal. hope this helps. (old pitcure, when we were only aloud to run 12.0s in street eliminator.)

ha yeah i agree with everyone else, but either way when ur droppin a 360 in u need to ungrade ur suspension and k member, also u have to buy new motor mounts for it. I am in the process of droppin a 360 into my 72 duster n i had to buy new mounts n now i have to upgrade suspension. only problem is $ takin a little longer then i hoped but its all about quality. If i had the option of upgrading to a 440 instead of a 360, i would go for it. so much more you can do to and with a 440 and to rebuild it, its only a couple hundred $ more then a 360. yeah u will have to put a little more money into the suspension but hell it'll be ahole lot more fun

plenty of room for the BB in the dart, k members are plentiful on ebay, it's work though. not sure of linkage issues. 440 is the boss, cannot compare 360 to it in pride or effect on the road. ensure 440 is a car engine and not a truck engine or old RV engine which i have been told are somehow very different and not high performance like an original 440 that came from a car? just what i heard, 2 cents. not an engine guru, just bodywork here.
