Default Rosto Job!!! need some advice :)

Hey Eveyone!! im finally going to restore my 74 Dart, but i need some advice on what ima do to it. Im putting in a 318 and im wondering if i should just leave the two-barrel carb on and rebuld the motor with a mild cam...sounds kinda lame i kno lol. Or should i put 4-barrel carb wit the cam, or would it be best to put a stroker and a cam in it(4-barrel required of course . its going to be a street car and i dont have a sure grip rear axle for it so im leaning wit just the 4-barrel and cam. Telll me what you guys think would be best for gas milage and to get some good horsepower?? thanx

My advice would be the four barrell route and a set of headers to start with. 318's will "wake up" quite a bit w/ that scenario. If you "dig in deeper" a 340 cam and some head work will do wonders as well.

You also mentioned the non-suregrip axle. If I were you and looking for the most bang for the least buck, I'd do the following in this order and see how it is shaking out:

1) Four barrell
2) Headers and dual exhaust
3) 3:55 or numerically higher gear ratio w/ suregrip
4) then worry about cams orhead work.

Beyond this, you'll start bordering on whether to just do a 360 motor or something...

Look at the Edelbrock Performer components, thay are designed to work togeather to work with stock engines and drivetrains, you can use them with stock torque converters and rear gearing. The basic performer stuff will make gobs of torque while maintaining driveability. Stay with the basic performer stuff, the performer RPM and performer Air Gap are ment for modified vehicles with stall converters and lower ( higher numericaly) gears. The basic performer 600 cfm carb is an awesome choice for this set up. Stay away from Hollies unless you are familiar with tuning them. Hollies are awesome carbs, but are "universal" and intended to be tuned to your individual application.
The Edelbrock carb is ment to be used with the intake/cam and will run well right outta the box. Hope this helps.

The 500 cfm will do well, but it will not put up with much more than stock as far as camming goes. The 600 cfm version will support a larger cam at a later date if you so choose to do so.
