Hey all. I just joined the forums, but I'm a total Mopar nut. I've been working on my 1970 Dodge Dart, it's got a 225 Slant Six, but the car is so clean and nice that I just can't alter it. Problem is, the oil pressure sending unit is leaking, I have a replacement but can't get the old one out! Every tool vender I've talked to says that the smallest Oil Pressure Sending Unit Socket is 1-1/16". I already own this socket, and that socket fits the part I plan on putting in, but it seems that the sending unit in the car already is much smaller. A 15/16" 12 point socket is just a tad too small. A 25mm 12 Point Socket slips over, as does a 1" 12 point. I have no idea what to do. I can't get a vice grips on it unless the engine is out of the car. Has anyone ever heard of a smaller Oil Pressuer Sending Unit?

reach under the sending unit and see if it doesnt have flats on it to put a wrench on. I bet it does!

Oil pressure sending units are kind of a strange looking thing. They have 12 sides to them, and the sides alternate in length. One short side followed by one long side. Special oil pressure sending unit sockets are made, but only go as low as 1-1/16". I've determined that mine must be somewhere around 31/32". While I'd love to get a wrench on it, that would require removing the engine entirely, and I'm just not ready to do that for a $7 part. On the 225 c.i. Slant Six, the Oil pressure sending unit is located just under the Oil filter base. It would be impossable to get a wrench on from the top as the fliter base it self would cover the 'flat' edges. It may be possable to get a wrench on from the bottom, but just like as I was trying with a Vice Grips and Channel Locks, there is no room directly underneath the unit either due to the fenders of the car, and the torsion bar suspension. I'm gonna see if I can find a 31/32" 12 point socket. That way I can put a small extension on the socket, and work away from all the mess right around that area.
If anyone's ever had a problem like this before, I'd love to hear from ya!
